Food Justice

Sisters of the Road prioritizes the right to locally sourced, culturally appropriate food for all. We have advanced the food justice movement in Portland long before this concept came to prominence, filling a critical role in Old Town by providing low-cost, healthy, and delicious meals to anyone who needs one.

With our cafe temporarily closed, our food justice efforts are composed of legislative movements and community engagement opportunities.

Our revamped Fresh Change program running in the summer of 2023 seeks to transform our long-running partnership with the Portland Farmers Market into an opportunity for community leadership and empowerment. We’re partnering with other local nonprofits that work with communities often left out of the food justice conversation (youth, LGBTQ+ individuals, and women) to start conversations about access, leadership development, food insecurity, and equity.
