True generosity requires more of us than kindly impulse. Above all it requires imagination - the capacity to see people in all their perplexities and needs, and to know how to expend ourselves effectively for them. - I.A.R. Wylie

Food Donations

Thank you for thinking about your neighbors in need. Although monetary gifts are most effective because we can buy in bulk from restaurant suppliers and the Food Bank, there are always food items that we can gratefully put to good use in the cafe!

We serve around 225 meals a day, and so we need large-quantity goods to fit with menu planning. Please contact us before you donate to be sure we have space: Kitchen Co-managers Nina Diouf and Bob Davis (503) 222-5694 ext. 24, or (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) Donation drop off times are Monday-Friday between 7:30-9:30AM or 3:30-5:00PM.

When you drop, please take a moment to fill out an In-Kind Donation Form (Click here for a PDF form, or click here for a Word version, or ask the staff person receiving the donation for it) because it’s important for our records.  It also serves as a receipt for your own tax purposes.  All you need to do is estimate the retail value of the product being donated.  Thanks again for thinking of Sisters!

Please Note:

Sisters Of The Road is a licensed restaurant, and we follow Health Code regulations very closely; that is why we received 100% on our last health inspection!  We must be extremely careful with perishable food, and we can only accept food that has been made in a restaurant-licensed kitchen.

Therefore the cafe cannot accept:

  • Home-made goods
  • Previously-served food: deli platters, dessert trays, pickle and olive trays, cookies
  • Milk or meat
  • Boxes of random canned food
  • Any opened packages of food

To inquire if your banquet left-overs, home-baked goods, or non-bulk food can be used elsewhere, please call

  • Portland Rescue Mission 111 W. Burnside 503-906-7690
  • Union Gospel Mission 15 NW 3rd Ave 503-228-0319

- all located in downtown Portland. FISH Emergency Services on SE Hawthorne may also take non-perishable food (503.233.5533).

Thank you for your giving spirit and warm thoughts!
