Echoes of Struggle and Hope: 20 Years of the Japanese American Historical Plaza, July 30th

Oregon Nikkei Endowment continues celebrating its 20th year in 2010 with a re-dedication of the Japanese American Historical Plaza in Tom McCall Waterfront Park on Friday, July 30, 2010. Beginning at 5pm at the Plaza, the celebration will include special guests including and Oregon Supreme Court Justice, former Poet Laureate of Oregon Lawson Inada and others. The special poetry collaboration with Sisters of the Road and other great organizations will also be featured.

The celebration continues with a party at the Bill Naito Legacy Fountain, just steps away from the Plaza. Bring family and friends to enjoy community sponsored music, crafts, food and more.


The City of Roses Annual Resource Festival July 31st, 2010

Iron Tribe is hosting The City of Roses Annual Resource Festival July 31st, 2010 from 10am to 6pm at Pioneer Square in downtown Portland, Oregon. The goal of this event is to connect Portlanders to organizations that offer resources for all people, including people experiencing homelessness and people transitioning out of prison.

This festival will offer various family events and activities for all ages. Foods, beverages, music and crafts will also be on hand, making it a day of celebration and outreach. Benefit Concert for Sisters at the Alberta Rose Theatre

Thursday, August 5th from 8 to 10pm, Gail Swanson and Scotty Rotten will perform at a benefit concert for Sisters. Gail is celebrating her new CD “Simple Truth.” Special guests on the CD include Pat Simmons, Willie Nelson, Michael McDonald, James “Hutch” Hutchinson, John Cruz and more… $3 will be donated to Sisters from the sale of every CD. Golden West Building Exhibit

The Golden West Building, 707 NW Everett at Broadway, has a permanent exterior exhibit telling the social and ethnic story of the vibrant African American community in Portland in the early 1900s and the successes and challenges of its residents. Check out the online version, and check out the exhibit in person next time you stop by Sisters!


Personalist Center Events

Our Personalist Center, located next to our cafe at 137 NW Davis, hosts a number of free, cross-class community events. Please join us:

  • Knitting Circle Wednesdays. Join us from 10:00 am to 12:30 every Wednesday. All skill levels welcome, basic materials provided.
