Office Support
Volunteers help with clerical support for our Development (fundraising) team and other administrative staff. Duties include office reception, phones, mailings, and database work.
Systemic Change
Our Systemic Change program works to realize economic human rights in our community by collaborating across class lines to build power and affect change through workgroups that focus on Civil Rights, Health and Housing. Duties include assisting workgroups with organizing campaigns and leadership building opportunities.
SisterSpeak
This is our speakers’ bureau which trains folks to go to other organizations, faith communities and other groups and inform them about the work we do at Sisters, while increasing awareness about the larger issues of homelessness and poverty. Duties include tabling at events, assisting with setup of PhotoVoice (our photo exhibit documenting experiences of homelessness in Portland) and public speaking.
We believe that by going into our community, sharing our perspectives on homelessness and poverty, we can create a more understanding and compassionate world.
Sisters’ Board Of Directors
Sisters’ Board meets on the 3rd Monday of each month from 6-8 pm in the cafe. The Board Of Directors supports the organization in its long-term vision and provides community oversight for the organization. Our goal is to have at least half of our Board made up of people with personal experience of homelessness, to keep our leadership coming from people who know firsthand the challenges and solutions to life on the streets. Board members are elected to two-year terms, so serving on the Board is a big commitment, but also very rewarding. The Board meets monthly, and participates in other Sisters’ committees and events. Committees include:
- Finance & Budget Committee: The Finance & Budget Committee serves as financial advisors supporting Sisters fiscal health and integrity. Email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
- Leadership Development Committee: The LDC is responsible for Board recruitment, elections, and orientation as well as for ongoing Board training and development. Email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
- Community Development Committee: The CDC acts as the resource development arm of the Board. It works with the Development Staff to creatively involve the Board in fundraising efforts, and acting as ambassadors of Sisters in the community.
