The Kitchen Team at Sisters Of The Road

angela gleaningA present and long term goal of the Kitchen Team is to move towards environmental and social sustainability.  This vision is supported by a sourcing program that works directly with local farmers and ranchers to bring in the highest quality local ingredients.  Gleaning from a number of Portland area farmer’s markets has given us the ability to bring in fresh fruits and vegetables from organic farms.  We are developing relationships with Oregon ranchers to source antibiotic free, hormone free, and pasture raised beef.

We have also partnered with B-line, a local company that provides urban delivery by bike to area businesses and provides a streamlined way for us to receive donations on a large scale.

B-Line has created an innovative program called B-shares, which brings surplus foods from community partners like Whole Foods Market, New Seasons Market, Dave’s Killer Bread, R & K Foods, and the People’s Coop Farmer’s Market directly to Sisters. Each $20 B-share share you purchase buys 40 meals at Sisters Of The Road. Click here to purchase B-shares!

Dining with Dignity

Dining With Dignity means that not only are we providing our community with a safe place to enjoy a meal, but also that we are committed to serving healthy food that has been sourced thoughtfully.  We are a vital part of the food movement that is already happening in Portland, ensuring that accessibility to safe and nutritious food is everyone’s right.

A big thanks to some of our seasonal and long term supporters:

Workplace Democracy

The Kitchen Team is leading a pilot program to build workplace democracy at Sisters. We are developing a co-management model that shares skills and power among the entire team. This reflects our commitment to social justice as an organization. Click here for our Resources page and more information about worker co-management models.
