The Empowered Voices Media Project at Sisters Of The Road

Since May of 2010, Sisters has partnered with Portland Community Media (PCM) to provide media technology trainings to members of the Sisters’ community, with funding from Neighbors West Northwest and the Multnomah County Cultural Coalition. The first round of six week trainings gave participants skills in using digital cameras and video equipment. They used these skills to their stories, stories about their experiences with homelessness and extreme poverty.

Their digital stories counter misleading stereotypes and assumptions about people who experience homeless. Sisters continues to partner with PCM and have access to their resources and trainings. Over the coming year we will produce more great media about the truth behind homelessness and poverty.
