Nonviolence and Gentle Personalism at Sisters Of The Road
Nonviolence
A commitment to nonviolence informs all of our work and decisions at Sisters Of The Road. It is understood that all individuals are equally worthy, that no one has a monopoly on the truth, and that we have much to learn from one another. There is a consistent refusal to participate in or condone any act of violence, any act of harm or humiliation - including racism, gender oppression, ableism or any other form of oppression. All violence (physical, verbal, emotional) is interrupted and we work to resolve conflicts with respect. Sisters recognizes, nurtures and celebrates community by building relationships through its programs, special events and outreach.
Gentle Personalism
Gentle Personalism is profoundly about love and standing up for each others’ rights and freedoms. We should all have the opportunity to do for ourselves and contribute to our community. At Sisters we don’t do for others what people can do for themselves and also recognize that we can work together for a just society in ways that respect our humanity. This is community organizing, rather than a charity approach.
